Pudee's Coming

Pudee's coming,
So I've been told
Don't quite believe it
Not quite sold

Weather's cooling down
It's time to cuddle
Tried the Other
But that's all a muddle

Just gotta hope
What's being said proves true
Otherwise it's not just the weather
That'll be blue

A Month - Again

Don't look now; it's been a month again
Don't make promises; next time who knows when?

Stepped outside to brilliant sunlight
Blinded so badly, I clearly took fright

The eyes see clearly but the mind's all fogged
Am I online? Am I properly logged?

Read seven books in twice as many weeks
Wished I could have done more than periodic peeks

But I'll take what I can get any which way
Love that my iPhone lets me read any time of day

Been looking at the Kindle and the eReader too
Enjoy their feel and what they let one do

But maximum portability remains my primary aim
Phone carries movies shows books games all the same

I've got glasses, I can see
When I gotta go, just zippety dee dee

Hot

It's so hot
I wish it were not

People shout
No matter what about

Air is hard to breathe
A/C can distress relieve

So maybe I should go out
Instead of staying in to pout

But someone has to stay
And not just to play

In case an intruder should prowl
Seeking to do something foul

My job is to stay and watch
Any trouble I must scotch

Okay so forced is this silly rhyme
At least I try, at least half the time

Machete

Swing that blade and hear the thwack
Hew and trim to push Nature back
Crash of branch and crunch of leaves
Woodland area thus bereaves
Swish of rake and snap of sacks
Gather up the scattered stacks

Suddenly a cell phone rings
Neighbor's wagging tongue reports things
Rings again with urgency
Dictating what should be and be
Leave off talking don't take the next call
What isn't said won't lead to another fall

All too soon the help will be gone
My own charge then to rebuild the lawn

New Day New Way

Yesterday the walls came down
Today the trees are following
Pipes are being inserted
Into yesterday's hollowing

Chop down the tree?
That was the question
Clearing the whole yard
Now of all infestation

Can't complain;
Haven't seen the bill
Not going to halt
Come what will

Noise has roused the neighborhood
All the noses are out
But fresh light and air
Are chasing away the urge to pout

If only the contractors
Would cease their suggestions
For further work to be done
Raising initial projections

If money grows on trees
Perhaps they shouldn't cut mine
How do they think they're gonna get paid
If there's no check left to sign

Auwe! It's a new day
The sun is shining bright
Fresh cut wood smells sweet
Think I'll just hang on tight

This novel ride has got to end
Eventually
Soon enough then to see
What to see

Emergency Repairs: Stat

It was just a periodic leak
A seeming bathtub overflow
Till burgeoning drops began to seep
Up through the floorboards from below

The first guy opened up the wall
Said galvanized piping won't do at all
The pipe's corroded, shot to hell
Crawled under the house and capped the well

Tore out the pipes and fixtures too
Banged and burned till he was blue
Asked if I wanted him to clean up the mess
Included in his time charge, no need to guess

Left the house with holes in the wall
Plumbing fixtures gone from the shower stall
Floor doesn't seep any more
No need either for a shower door...

Next plumber said, I can fix that
Looked at the wall and pushed back his hat
That wall needs replacing, too you know
So up the estimate must go

Pulled out the tub and looked at the floor
Y'know those repairs? Gonna need some more
Floor's all rotted out for sure
Exterior wall also needs a cure

Between water rot and termite damage
There's not much left that we can salvage
But we can fix that back gate for you
Since we're here, we can do that too

It's only money
Cash in hand
Can't take it with you
Put it into the land

Day Melds into Day

Today's tomorrow
I'm too slow
Tried to hurry
But just couldn't go

Been chasing my tail
Not just for sport
Contractors are elusive
The unreliable sort

But this afternoon promised
A new kind of guy
Called and came over
Seems pretty fly

If he can deliver
On that which he's promised
I'll be content
Instead of more pissed

So here's to the contractor
Who plumbs and pounds
Let's hope he's just
As good as he sounds

Borrowed Voice

My Pudee is not here with me
So we cannot see what each may see
What may be seen what may be thought
Who is chased, who has fought

And so with racing heart I must release
This blogsite to appease
Pudee's insatiable need to babble
About all and sundry of the rabble

When next will there will be some report
Of JJ's needs and Nouna's sport?
I cannot say but sincerely do hope
Releasing this blog does not prove me a dope

Dogged Doggerel for Proper Caterwauling

Doggerel is difficult when required on demand
Words rarely seem to come out quite as planned

Tis easier by far when one has something to say
Or at least begins in the proper mood to play

Unshaped thoughts like fluffy clouds not yet prepared to break
Can attract the oddest words merely for rhyming's sake

Add lack of willpower or self-discipline to the mix
And the result can leave a would-be writer in quite a messy fix

Rhyme rhythm meter: none seem part of any plan
Just putting down what comes out as only nonsense can

And yet when seen in light of such a lengthy drought
One can only be grateful that something has come out

Or not

Wondering re Wandering

Oh where oh where have my humans gone
Oh where oh where can they be
First one suitcase comes down
Then another one too
Oh where oh where have they gone

Meow!

Lemme Out

This morning was frenetic
Don't ask me why

Nouna kept to the courtyard
Till she could no longer resist the sky

The Gurlz dashed in and out
Dodging this way and that

JJ watched from his usual perch
To snatch the last bite, that chubby cat

Comet's been getting my share of kisses
Ajax almost never gets what she wishes

And I? Why I use my paw as a cap
And continue to take my usual nap

Grey Day

I like a grey day
Like today

The weather's ideal
For that sleepy feel

Nouna gets excellent
Outside time

While the others get
Simple rhyme

And I get the bedroom
All to myself

Or if I prefer
The cat tree's top shelf

Busy Morning

What was that?!?
Frack!

Not once, not twice,
But thrice
That erstwhile foot
I encountered

I am Max:
Supposedly
Immune to attacks
So what was that?!?

Random, you say?
No way!

Give me back
My peace and quiet
Days on end
All alike

How much longer
Will Pudee be
In town
Making my head and tail
Go round and round?

As that displaced Hawaii resident
Likes to say:
Auwe!

Reflection: In a Clearly Foggy State

The mind is slow
Too much ungrounded wattage
Synapses firing off in all directions
Threatening overload without adequate release
Ungrounded
Nowhere to go
Like an aging house wired for two-pronged ungrounded outlets
Small appliances
Small life
Getting smaller moment by moment
Like the sands of an hourglass

Frack it all!

These had better NOT be all there is
To the days of my life

I am nine by human count
Middle-aged for a domesticated feline
Thrice the life expectancy of my feral counterparts
Of my parents
Of my own expectations,
Given the circumstances of my birth

Sometimes I envy Nouna
Who had at least a year
Who tasted life as it was intended
Who yearns still
To taste the early morning breezes
To read the wind

While I remain ensconced
Enjoying the comfort
Of my cozy imprisonment
Contentedly discontented
As I await the sporadic promised return
Of my human

Tomorow will be soon enough

Slippage: I feel its onset once again
Slip sliding away
Back into the oblivious limbo
Of my slumbering mind
Willing to wait
Instead of willing to do

What was that?
zzzzzzzz.......

Too Long

Too long have I languished
Waiting for word
Waiting for my fur to be ruffled
Once more

Too long has it been
Since the PUdee was here
Since I served as warming winter wear
Wrapped around

Too long have I waited
No more

But alas there is only
One PUdee for me
And so I continue to abide here
Lying patiently
